Cowichan does Culture

Several events were held in the Cowichan Valley as part of the annual BC Culture Days program.

A show and demonstration by members of the Visions artists' group, a dance demonstration by Carlson's School of Dance, and an artists' market at the Junction in Cowichan Bay were part of the excitement along with workshops and theatrical presentations both at the Quw'utsun' Cultural Centre and the Island Savings Centre.

Kids inspire teachers to lop off long locks

Joyce Scott and Kim Robb of Carlson's School of DanceTwo prominent Cowichan Valley dance teachers are offering their beautiful hair as part of Valley's efforts to boost the 2011 Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock Tuesday, Oct. 4.

Kim Robb and Joyce Scott, two of the owners of Carlson's School of Dance, have promised to shave their heads and are hoping they can raise a total of $5,000 for research into pediatric cancer.

So far, they've got $3,000 and are working towards more so why not consider helping push their campaign over the top? Receipts are available for any contribution over $15. It's been a great year for Joyce Scott, Pam Hicks, Reija Best and Kim Robb and their students at Carlson School of Dance.

The big school, a Cowichan Valley institution, offers dancers many ways to combine exercise with new confidence, friendship with learning and style with discipline.

Carlson’s dancers are In The Mood To Dance.

They’ll prove why during this weekend’s big, annual recital in the Cowichan Theatre.

That’s where 24 different floor routines by some 400 students, says teacher and Carlson’s School of Dance co-owner Joyce Scott.
