Carlson shows off diverse styles
Lexi Bainas, The Citizen, June 29, 2011
It's been a great year for Joyce Scott, Pam Hicks, Reija Best and Kim Robb and their students at Carlson School of Dance.
The big school, a Cowichan Valley institution, offers dancers many ways to combine exercise with new confidence, friendship with learning and style with discipline.
Three big year-ending performances are always needed to showcase all the students in their various configurations.
And there's always plenty to enjoy at every show.
The Saturday afternoon extravaganza we attended began with a group of winsome three-year-olds who were "Goin' to the Game," an especially appropriate subject as it was only the previous week that the new Evans Park ball fields had joyfully opened.
During the afternoon, parents and friends had the chance to watch performances in ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop.
Scott also told the crowd that she and her colleagues are planning a hair-raising fund drive for summer and fall, so watch this space!
